Nacido en el 76, 31 años de edad, casi 32 en noviembre, siempre he sido un apasionado del ciclismo, especialmente desde perico Delgado y despues indurain, pero cuando tenia 15-18 anos solo montaba en verano, me ponia en forma y cuando llegaba el invierno lo perdia todo y vuelta a empezar en Verano. Des
pues vino la Universidad, novia, master y curro, ahi perdi el norte y deje de montar durante varios anos. Despues émigré a sudafrica y por fin el año pasado a raiz de una conversacion con un sudafricano se encendio la luz y decidi comprarme una bici de Montaña en mayo del 2008. Este amigo de un amigo nos hablo del Cape Epic y a mi me parecio un tour muy interesante, entonces no tenia ni idea en lo que me estaba metiendo.En fin, decidi probar mi suerte con el sorteo para conseguir una entrada y adivina, consegui la entrada. Durante esos dias de agosto vi en la tele un resumen del epic 2007 y me di cuenta que era una de las carreras por etapas mas duras del circuito de mtb. El miedo escenico se apodero de mi asi que decidi ir a un entrenador personal a la vez que convencia mi novia (ahora mujer) de hacer la carrera juntos.
En agosto contactamos a Robbie McIntosh, ex pro de la bici y ahora entrenador de ciclistas tanto profesionales como amateurs aqui en Johanesburgo.(gano la vuelta a Zaragoza y otras carreras en Europa en el pasado). Todo el mundo nos dijo que no seriamos ni siquiera capaces de terminar el epic pero Robbie dijo que, si haciamos exactamente lo que el decia, terminariamos sin problemas. En resumen, despues de unos 10.000km y de mas de 500 horas de entrenamiento terminamos la carrera en la posicion 397 de 500 equipos y unas 69:57 minutos en la bici, una locura total!
La experiencia fue increible y solo tuvimos 8 meses para ponernos en forma, teniendo en cuenta que no habia montado en una bici desde el colegio (hace unos 15 años)
El reto ahora es epic 2009!

I am 31 years young and originally from Bavaria /Germany . When I was young I was skiing and cycling (MTB) a lot but after finishing my studies real life started and due to job commitments I was traveling a lot and couldn't find any spare time for my hobbies.
However I was lucky enough to get a job offer from my Company in SouthAfrica two years ago, I decided to leave Germany and move to Johannesburg.
The first 6 month were full of work and I wasn't able to do any sport ... soon I met some friends and road cycling was their big hobby. One day I decided to join them on my MTB ... the first 30km have been great but then I got dropped badly and my decision was made: I need a road bike.
Spending lots of time on the road during the last year I missed my MTB more and more and after some great multi day stage race I am back in MTB and decided to do the Cape Epic. Unfortunately I didn't get an entry and was lucky enough to meet Joaquin at one of the multi-stage races....and now the real training starts!
